Looking Back

By Not Known

It seems not too long ago when I was young like many of you.  Although I still feel young, more than 40 years have actually silently slipped by.  Time and age seem merciless as the body begins to age while some of my contemporaries had also gone on to an early grave.

There are many things I thought I should have done, but one thing I have been very thankful to God was He guided me to commit to the Lord Jesus when I was still a youth.  Looking back over the 40 odd years, I see how He faithfully sustained me, as He kept the commitment I have made with Him.

It is indeed comforting to realize that God is the one upholding me as I sought to “remember (my) Creator in the days of (my) youth” (Ecclesiastes 12:1a).  It is He (not me!) who has always kept to His side of the bargain even when there were moments in my life when I was tempted to give up and forsake Him.  Yes, He is the ever-faithful One, and I can always rely on Him and His tender mercy.

The Bible tells us of many people whose faith in God allowed them to be used by Him which produced amazing results.  The Letter to the Hebrews tells us of those “who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned strength….” (Hebrews 11:33-34).  Indeed, the list of heroes of the faith has grown through the ages and is still growing to this day.

We too, can be a part of this list if we choose to remain faithful to our God today.  We can continue to “attempt great things for God and expect great things from God” relying on His power and faithfulness. Let us allow God to use our lives to leave His marks on the eternal pages of His story, for His glory.
