The Gospel of Luke – 1

  • The gospel of Luke is the first installment of the 2 volume work of Luke-Acts. Luks’s account describes the good news in terms of God’s work in the person, live, death, resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ.The second volume points to the power fo the gospel in forming a renewed people of God.

    The primary purpose of Luke’s gospel is to strengthen and confirm the faith fo the early Christains. He writes so that Theophilus (and other readers) “may know the certainty fo the things” that they have been taught (1:4). Our lessons will then focus on this strong appologetic thone, as we discover and unpack the exact “things” that require affimation of faith.

The Gospel of Mark

  • Mark’s gospel—presumably, the first in chronological order—focuses on the identity Jesus Christ. The writing is distinctly biographical in genre in that it seeks to preserve the history and teaching of its central figure, Jesus Christ. Mark’s portrayal of Jesus is inherently filled with tension. Although Jesus is clearly human, nonetheless, he exercises divine authority over nature and other spheres of human existence. As the reader comes to terms with Jesus’ identity, it is clear that Mark highlights his character as fulfilling the role of Isaiah’s suffering servant. Just as God had called Israel to reflect his character, so too must Jesus’ followers reflect his character, particularly in self-denial and cross-bearing discipleship.

  • The Kingdom of God in Biblical Theology

    The Kingdom (Rule) of God is a theme that is found through out the Bible. Jesus begins his ministry by proclaiming – “The time has come! The Kingdom of God has come near. Repent and believe the good news!” (Mk 1: 14-15)

    This class looked at the theme of the Kingdom of God in the Old Testament and then concentrate on Matthew’s Gospel with it kingdom of Heaven teaching

    Today lesson will look in the relationship between the Kingdom of God and the Church

  • “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work” (2 Tim 3:16-17)

    How can – when we read the scriptures – we interprit the scriptures correctly? We need to determine what the tet mean in its original context and what does it mean for our context today?

  • Biblical Theology is the interpretation of Scripture, when the reader asks questions about God along the temporal flow of the Bible’s storyline. On the other hand, Systematic theology is the interpretation of Scripture when the reader ask atemporal questions about God this time organised in categories.

    Today’s lession is an introduction to the whole concept of Biblical Theology illustrated by seeing what the Bible says about the word gospel through the OT into the NT.

What is Theology and Why is it important?

  • Theology is the discipline that teaches us to think and talk about God in such a way that directs our faith and living. This is possible only because God enables it in the first place, as he reveals himself in his creation and in the Bible. Without a coherent and consistent biblical worldview, our Christian lives will be “tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of people in their deceitful scheming” (Eph 4:14). This session will address specific reasons why we must learn good theology, if we hope to grow in Christian faith and practice, which is why Paul challenged the Corinthians for being “infants in Christ.” He writes, “I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it” (1 Cor 3:2).

  • How do Presbyterians view baptism and the Lord’s Supper in contract to Baptists, Lutherans, or Roman Catholics? How do sacraments work in the life of Presbyterian believers? What is the difference between a sacrament and an ordinance? At a time when Christians routinely transfer in and out of denominations, it is very important for them to understand the biblical, theological, and historical bases that gave rise to these doctrinal and ecclesiastical differences. Most importantly, the talk will explain wy Christians should participate in the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s supper.
