Christian Life in a Culture of Grumbling
Have you learnt how to be contented and satisfied in your everyday life, regardless of your outward circumstances? This is not a trivial question. One of the most common existential problems for humans is that we are not happy. The Bible has much to say about contentment and what it means to be happy.
In our lesson, we will use a 17th century Puritan preacher’s working definition as a starting point for our discussion. Jeremiah Burroughs writes, “Contentment is the inward gracious quiet spirit that joyfully rests in God’s providence“.
Secondly, we will consider what the Bible says about contentment and focus on how the gospel functions to help us be content in everyday life.
