“And how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus” (2 Tim. 3:15).
Do we read the Bible every day? Some of us may say, “I don’t have the time.” However, don’t we still make time for other things? We often struggle to make the time to read the Bible, even though we know that the Bible is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training God’s people in righteousness (2 Tim. 3:16). There are many Christians who have not read the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, despite their following God for years.
Indeed, we admit it is not easy to discipline ourselves to read the Bible regularly. Many Christians only open and read their Bible when attending church services. Brothers and sisters, never underestimate the value of reading the Bible, because it contains the heart, will, plans, ways and promises of God. That is the reason the Lord commanded Joshua, “Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do everything written in it. Then you will be prosperous and successful” (Josh. 1:8).
When we read the Bible, we allow the steps we take in our life to be directed along the path of God’s truth. We are also reminded of His power, love, kindness, mercy, protection and care. Besides, by reading the Bible, we learn to imitate the lives of His chosen people; how they went through each process in their life; and how God revealed His power over them: “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope” (Rom. 15:4).
Ancient Words
(written by Lynn Deshazo)
Holy words long preserved
for our walk in this world,
They resound with God’s own heart
Oh, let the Ancient words impart.
Words of Life, words of Hope
Give us strength, help us cope
In this world, where e’er we roam
Ancient words will guide us Home.
Ancient words ever true
Changing me, and changing you.
We have come with open hearts
Oh let the ancient words impart.
