Jesus is coming soon. In the final chapter of Revelation, Jesus confirmed this promise three times. “Look, I am coming soon! Blessed is the one who keeps the words of the prophecy written in this scroll” (22:7). “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done” (22:12). “Yes, I am coming soon” (22:20). Although we do not know the exact date of His return, we know that Jesus is coming.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we remember Paul’s warning, “For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth)and find out what pleases the Lord.Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them” (Eph 5:8-11).
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are reminded to “be very careful, then, how you (we) live—not as unwise but as wise” (Eph 5:15). Last Christmas, I received a lot of journals as presents. In particular, there is this one journal that required me to write down my weekly activities and at the end of the day to reflect and learn from them. Since I had the time, I did a daily journal instead. At the end of each day, I recalled things that I did well, words that I didn’t say right, actions that I regretted and grace that I have received. Although the exercise took a lot of time and effort, I am thankful for it. If you have never taken stock of your life or it has been some time since you did it, try it again. May God “teach us how to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Ps 90:12).
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are reminded to “make the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” (Eph 5:16). Remember who we are and what we are here for. We are called to live for God and to love others. How? Order your priorities well – God, family, friends, work and self. Disciple a newer believer and help him grow into maturity. Go through our Evangelism Explosion training so that you are always ready to share your faith (1 Pet 3:15). Be faithful and generous in your giving. Help others in practical ways. Share your struggles. Pray with one another.
As followers of Jesus Christ, we are reminded to “understand what the Lord’s will is” (Eph 5:17b). The Bible is full of God’s wisdom. Be diligent. Spend time reading and meditating on God’s word. If possible, read through your Bible each year. Take advantage of the classes our church offers. Study His word. Join a discipleship group. Make friends with God’s people.
Jesus is coming soon. Let us keep our lives in order and help each other so that when Christ comes, we are ready to meet Him.
